It would be useful to know more about the NEST installation and technical details to see how feasible this is for a DIY upgrade rather than having to get an installer in at extra cost.

I have a Drayton Digistat +3RF that cost me £140. The Drayton is a wireless, programmable thermostat that learns how long your house takes to warm up and adjusts the programmed heating schedule accordingly for weather conditions. But it’s not internet connected, so there’s no smart phone app, and it doesn’t record the heating activity nor does it know when I’m not in the house (I can’t work out from the Nest website how the Nest thermostat can detect presence!). So an extra £40 for these functions seems reasonable.
